Ms. Merritt was fortunate to grow up in a house full of educators.  Ms. Merritt's dad, was an elementary school principal and her mom, was an amazing Kindergarten teacher!  After graduating from UConn Ms. Merritt realized that her parents were right!  The business world was not the setting for her and she decided to go back to school to become a teacher.  This is Ms. Merritt's 10th year teaching at the Ocean City Primary School!  After 6 awesome years in Kindergarten, Ms. Merritt has quickly realized the amazing learning that takes place in first grade.  It is with great pride that she has the opportunity to teach in this great district!

I love teaching in Ocean City and 1st Grade is the best place to be!  I feel it is my job to encourage children to become lifelong, passionate learners.  First Grade provides for an opportunity to nurture this excitement for learning.  I believe in creating a positive classroom environment, where the children feel safe and are ready to learn.  It is through hands on, developmentally appropriate practices where the children will begin to grow their love of learning.

When I'm not in my classroom, you may see me running along the boardwalk, swimming in the ocean or pedaling by on my bike.  I'm a competitive triathlete and always on the move.  Kids in my class have many opportunities to expend some energy throughout the day!
