What follows is also information you need prior to the start of school:
Meet and Greet – We invite you to meet your new teacher and new classroom on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Emergency Contact/Medical Information- IMPORTANT please visit our district website www.oceancityschools.org and update the information in the parent portal. Please follow the prompts and input information to update your emergency contact and medical information.
1. Contact Form: Provide the best two telephone numbers and an email address for school contact purposes
2. Medical Form: Provide a summary medical information (as you have in the past), but this year via a secure, online form, which ensures the information is available to staff before the first day of school.
This is extremely important so we may contact you.
School Arrival/Dismissal – School arrival time is 8:35am and you should be at your desk ready for instruction at 8:45a.m. Our first day is Tuesday, September 6th and will be a full day. You are dismissed in groups using the following format: Son Club, bus students and then walkers. If your parents are driving you to and from school, you must cross West Avenue only at a corner where the school crossing guard is stationed. Please pull to the curb for drop off and pick-up for everyone’s safety. Double parking is not permitted. Parents and guardians are not permitted beyond the lobby of the main entrance to meet you at dismissal.
Important: Please make sure a note is sent into school if your dismissal routine will be different than the one established. We understand emergency situations arise but please let the office know by 2:30 of any changes in the dismissal procedure for that day. This way we can make sure all students are safe and accounted for at the end of the school day.
Transportation – During the first two weeks of school, please wear the enclosed tag on yourself. This will assist the bus driver who will be helping you depart from the bus. The first two weeks will be an adjustment period and times for arrival and departure will be established. The rules for bus safety found in the Primary School Policy Booklet and Calendar will be distributed on the first day of school. Please review these with your parents/guardians.
Dismissal Requests From School – A Dismissal Requests from School form will be distributed on the first day of school. Please have your parents complete this form and return it to your teacher by Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
Attendance – The attendance policy of the Primary School can be located in the Policy Handbook that is distributed on the first day of school. Your regular attendance to school is vital to your education. Please refer to the enclosed district calendar to help you when you are planning family activities. Plus, we really miss you when you are not in school!
Members of the Ocean City Community have donated a limited amount of book bags with supplies. If you are in need, or know of a family in need of this item, please tear off the bottom portion of this letter and return to the main office as soon as possible. Supplies will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.
Please use these last days of August to prepare for the start of school. Help eliminate anxiety in the morning by having clothes and school supplies ready the night before. Establishing a bed time that will enable you to get a minimum of eight hours sleep and have enough time for a good breakfast before leaving for school is very important. Sleep is food for the brain and breakfast is food for the body. To have the energy to meet the demands of each school day, you need both. The ability to concentrate is important for success.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us. I cannot wait to see you at our Meet and Greet the afternoon of Friday, September 2, 2016 and on our first day of school Tuesday, September, 6, 2016!
Cathleen M. Smith, Principal
